Two big announcements

First, we are excited to offer a new subscription based pricing model for the frequent users of the service! The cost is $29.95 for the first month and then $19.95 a month thereafter. Don't worry, we will still be keeping the credit based model for the more casual users and the free option will also be available. This new pricing model will save frequent users even more over what similar services cost. It also allows you to easily budget your costs and provides convenient signup and cancellation through your existing Paypal account. There is no minimum signup term, no contract, you are free to cancel anytime. You now have even more control over your cross browser testing needs. Signup today and start saving! For more details, see our pricing page.

Second, we are equally excited to announce that we will be adding automated snapshots to our list of services! Simply type in your URL and well deliver an image of your website in any of our OS/Browser combinations that you choose. This service is not yet ready for use, but we wanted to let you know it was coming. Why? Because we have a special offer for you, our current users.

We are offering a price freeze to the first 100 people to signup for the new subscription service! That's right, if you signup today, your subscription price will be locked in when the new snapshot service comes online in the next 6 weeks. To help cover our costs with this new service, we will be raising the credit prices by roughly 25% and we will be raising the price of the subscription from $19.95 a month to $29.95 a month. We'll also be raising the initial month signup from $29.95 to $39.95. By locking in now, you'll be saving $120 a year or 33% over the new subscriber price. This is our way of saying thank you to the people that have helped us make the service what it is today.

We hope you are as excited as we are and as always, please let us know if you have any comments or questions.

Happy Holidays,
The CrossBrowserTesting.com team

You're raising the prices on the service that I want -- the one that made you guys so awesome to begin with -- so that you can afford to provide a service that I don't want, that other people are providing for free already?

That's not cool. :-/

i would suggest discounts for an annual subscription for those who prefer to pay it all up front

Sorry to take so long getting to these comments. We have been working on infrastructure changes and the pricing model has taken a back seat to the system performance. However, we have spent a great deal of time discussing the pricing model and the comments here and from email and I can assure you that we will do our best to make it both affordable and profitable for everyone. Thanks for the comments, keep them coming.

I'm afraid I must agree entirely with the first comment. If I need a screenshot of a website in another browser, I'd merely go to one of several free competitors (respectfully, I will not name them here). What makes your service stand out is the ability to take a site for an interactive test drive in another browser/OS, with (I assume) tools to troubleshoot problems right there on the spot (at least as far as the Developer Toolbar for IE and/or Firebug for Firefox).

That ability so far has only one competitor that I've ever heard of, and due to its convenience (and the VNC connection, which is far above and beyond the aforementioned competitor), gives you a strong market position.

My feeling is that if the screenshot feature will cause a significant increase in operating costs, your pricing model should cover the following options:
1) Current service, current price
2) Screenshot service, price TBD by you
3) Current service plus screenshot service, price less than 1 and 2 combined

This would allow users to select the service package they desire, without charging them for services they do not desire. Additionally, separating the screenshot service would enable you to provide a free, ad-supported version if you desire.

Personally, I think you're pricing yourself out of users. The cost is just too high to justify.

You guys realise that their prices are going up so that they can afford to provide the service, right? You don't like it, find someone else who provides the same service cheaper.

I hope you are reading and listening to your users. The market will always tell you what it wants and is willing to pay for. I just showed up here but I can tell you, there's no way in hell I'd pay the prices you are asking... I can pretty much do all the testing I need to do for free. Be careful you're not creating a solution looking for a problem.

The thing I like most about this site is that you offer realtime testing that includes Javascript functionality. Screenshots don't do any good in those cases. I wish there were some lower rate for the subscription service (maybe less time or something) -- I'd like to pay for service regularly, but can't quite justify $30 a month yet as a not-quite-working web designer.

I find it amusing that you raise your prices 33% during a recession and then describe it as a savings for people who lock in a price that seems high to begin with. Mentioning this is a way of saying thankyou takes 6@11s. I have been considering this service but for that price I think it would be worth while going through the hastle of setting up multiple instances of each browser.
